Sparks of Energy

This album is Part 2 of Mushtari- a live concert as Amika and I had presented a Tabla solo recital in Teentaal of 16 beats in our recording as well. This album has a very highly charged audience, who in turn, charged me up as well to play a rather high energy recording of a Tabla recital. I presented both Vilambit and Drut Leyh Teental ( Slow and fast tempo of 16 beats). The Lehra, or Harmonium baseline, was composed by Amika’s brother, Neal Kushwaha. In the introduction of the solo, I played purely Uppaj, or spontaneous improvisation rather than the prescribed Peshkara of the Delhi Gharana of Tabla playing. That took me by surprise too and I had fun while playing Uppaj.
